BC Soccer Hosts Thrilling 2023 Inter-Provincials Tournament

2023 Women's Inter-Provicinial Championships

In a remarkable showcase of soccer excellence, BC Soccer and League1 BC played host to the 2023 League1 Canada Women’s Inter-Provincial Championships. Held at Willoughby Community Park in Langley, the tournament unfolded against the backdrop of British Columbia's natural beauty, providing the perfect setting for an exciting display of soccer. The event, the highest level of club competition for Women’s soccer in the country, was hosted for the first time ever in British Columbia, following a successful edition in 2022 in Laval, QC.

All matches were streamed live via OneSoccer, which reached all of North America, the Caribbean and South America.

Through the heat in Langley, the Inter-Provincials tournament brought together four exceptional teams, each representing their respective League1 divisions. Alliance United FC, hailing from League1 Ontario, showcased their skills alongside Programme Excel Féminin (PEF), a formidable team representing League1 Québec. The local talent was well-represented by Unity FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps both from League1 BC.

To qualify for the competition, each team had to demonstrate their mettle by excelling in their respective League1 divisions. The Semi-finals took place on Friday, August 11th, fans witnessed a goal-scoring frenzy and which saw the first action of the competition with Unity FC falling to PEF to a scoreline of 6-4. In the second match of the day, not saw a tight match between Vancouver Whitecaps and Alliance United that ended 2-1 for the League1 BC squad.

As the tournament culminated in the final two games on Sunday, The third-place match saw Unity FC taking on Alliance United, which favoured the score line 2-0 for the League1 BC squad. It all came down to one game, the Championship match between the Vancouver Whitecaps Youth Elite Girls and PEF. The intense weather made for tough conditions but with the enthusiastic crowd, they encouraged both teams and, in the end, saw Vancouver Whitecaps control the game from the beginning, emerging victorious, clinching the championship title with a scoreline of 5-0. Their exceptional performance solidified their place as the top Women’s Team in Canada.

Being the host of such a prestigious tournament is a testament to BC Soccer's commitment to fostering the growth of the sport in the Province and the continued support of women’s soccer. The event not only celebrated the sport's finest talent but also underscored the importance of creating a platform to promote top talent to the next level.

League1 BC

League1 BC is an adult open-age Pro-Am Soccer League operated by BC Soccer.

Established in 2021, the league is intended to bridge the gap between youth and professional soccer, targeting the “Training to Compete” stage within Long-term Player Development (LTPD). The League will engage communities across British Columbia providing standard-based competition and training environments for female and male players, coaches, and match officials. League1 BC serves as a key platform of development into further opportunities within the game.
